Matts Chat September 2025

Matt Piggin |

“Spring always feels like the season to start fresh – new plans, new projects, and a bit of extra energy to get stuck in.”

Spring is in the air – I personally love spring. Bring on the warmer (but not crazy hot) days and those long lazy nights as daylight savings kicks in. I’ve noticed over the years that this change of season sparks a change in attitude – people seem lighter, more motivated, and optimistic.
In my spare time, I enjoy growing vegetables. I like the process and the ritual – choosing what to grow, planning where to plant, preparing the soil, then nurturing each seedling with watering and care until it reaches an edible stage. There’s nothing more satisfying than eating something you’ve grown yourself.
It kind of feels the same when you’re learning something new or starting a project. You plan it out, do the groundwork, and bit by bit things start to take shape. Before you know it, you’re seeing the results of all that effort. Whether it’s in the garden, on the tools, or in your trade – it’s all about sticking with it and enjoying the process.

As always we’re here when you need us – no question too big or small.

Haydn Fleece vs Traditional Drop Sheets

When it comes to protecting surfaces during painting, renovations, or maintenance,
not all covers are created equal - We have compared both using a few key metrics:

Absorbency And Spills

Haydn Fleece Cover
Absorbent fleece top layer traps paint drips, water, dust, and debris
Impermeable backing prevents bleed-through, protecting floors completely
Traditional Drop Sheets
Absorbent, but not waterproof — spills may still seep through
Better suited for dry debris or light-duty jobs
Plastic Sheeting:
Waterproof but not absorbent — paint pools and becomes slippery
Increases risk of tracking mess around the site

Surface Grip & Safety

Haydn Fleece Cover:
Anti-slip backing grips most surfaces
Stays flat and secure even under foot traffic or ladders
Ideal for timber, vinyl, tiles, and carpet
Drop Sheets:
Often slide around unless taped
Can become a tripping hazard, especially on hard floors
Plastic Covers:
Extremely slippery, especially on hard floors

Convenience & Reusability

Haydn Fleece Cover:
Reusable multiple times with proper care
Easy to roll, store, and cut to size
Doesn’t tear or crack with age
Drop Sheets:
Also reusable, but require washing and drying
Can fray or rip over time
Plastic Sheets:
Typically single-use
Tears easily and creates unnecessary waste

While traditional plastic and canvas drop sheets have their place, the Haydn Fleece
Cover stands out for its superior absorbency, non-slip backing, and reusability. It’s a
smarter choice for professionals and DIYers alike who want a cleaner, safer, and
more efficient worksite. Whether you’re painting, sanding, or doing general
maintenance, choosing the right surface protection isn’t just about keeping things
clean — it’s about working smarter.

For most jobs, the Haydn Fleece Cover offers the best balance of performance,
practicality, and long-term value.

One of the best things about my job is the random queries and problems customers have that need solving. Sometimes we don’t have a ready-to-go answer, but we have fun stumbling on a solution that works.
