“Keep It 100 On The Land, The Sea, The Sky.” — Taylor Swift

If you’d told me a year ago I’d be learning a Taylor Swift dance, I would’ve laughed and said not a chance.
Well, roll on to November and if you follow Millin on socials you will see me doing just
that. There’s something refreshing about doing things that make you uncomfortable.
Whether it’s dancing, public speaking, or picking up a spray gun for the first time – that awkwardness is where the learning happens. It’s where you realise how much you don’t know... and how good it feels when you finally get the hang of it.
At work, I see it all the time. Someone switches from rollers to a sprayer, tries a new sanding system, or figures out how to maintain their own gear – and suddenly their jobs run smoother, faster, cleaner.
The hesitation turns into confidence.
The “I’ll probably mess this up” becomes “why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Be sure to follow us on Instagram for great product info and a few laughs at my expense

Polishing Mops & Bars - Getting That Perfect Shine

150mm Sisal Polishing Mops - For Cutting Ferrous Metals

Whether you’re chasing a true mirror finish on aluminium, a bright gloss on stainless, or a deep glow on brass, the secret isn’t just the machine – it’s the right pairing of polishing mops and bars.

The 3 Main Types of Mop

Sisal Mops

Are great for the initial cutting stage on Ferrous Metals, remove heavy scratches, casting marks, rust, scale, and other surface defects, leaving the material ready for finer polishing stages.

White Stitched Mops

Versatile middle ground cutting and polishing, are mostly used for polishing non ferrous metals and will give a high shine finish on ferrous metals

Loose Leaf Cotton or Calico Mops

Are used for final finishing, leaving a bright, high gloss surface.

Choosing the right mop depends on the material and stage of polishing you’re at.

Polishing Bars – The Perfect Partner

Polishing bars are designed to work with mops to deliver specific results. The bars are solid compounds loaded with abrasives and lubricants.

Each formula has a specific abrasive blend for metals like stainless steel, aluminium, brass, or chrome.

Colour conventions vary by brand, but generally the following is true:

Cutting Compounds

Designed to remove scratches, oxidation, sanding lines

Grey - Carbrax is a fast cutting compound for ferrous and non ferrous metals.

Brown - Tripoli designed for the first cut on non ferrous metals.

Black Polish - Is a coarse cutting compound for ferrous metals.

Finishing Compounds

Designed to work the buffing process to bring out the final shine.

Green - lime is for final polishing on ferrous and non ferrous metals and stainless steel.

White - Hyfin is used for a high finish on ferrous metals.

Blue - Multi Shine designed to give a high gloss finish on soft metals and alloys.

For the best results, always pair the right mop with the right bar, for example, a sisal mop with a brown cutting compound, followed by a soft cotton mop with a white finishing bar.

One of the best things about my job is the random queries and problems customers have that need solving. Sometimes we don’t have a ready-to-go answer, but we have fun stumbling on a solution that works.
