Tool - Compound - Pad
I recently spent a morning with the Global Director of Training for Rupes USA, Master Detailer Jason Rose. When you are being taught with the knowledge that Jason has, you realise how much there is to learn, and with that learning how much better and easier it is to do a job and get spectacular results.
Rupes have built a system to tackle any polishing task. The system has three components, Tool, Compound and Pad. In the last blog we looked at the different Polishing Tools - In this blog we will look at Foam and Microfibre pads.
The Polishing Pads
The quality of your final polish is only as good as the system you use - This is especially true with the Rupes Big Foot Polishers because of the enormous stroke each tool makes!
Rupes have developed foam, microfibre and wool pads that not only work with the massive stroke of the Big Foot Polishers, but actually take advantage of it to deliver perfect results. The Bigfoot range of pads are designed to be matched with the specific tool and compounds you are using - Rotary, Random Orbital or Gear Driven.

Foam Pads - For Random Orbital And Gear Driven Polishers
Available in a range of sizes from 40mm to 180mm, the Bigfoot foam pads are designed to be matched with the Rupes polisher being used.

The design and material used in a D-A Coarse pad is engineered to optimize the cutting action of random orbital and gear-drive orbital polishers while delivering a quality finish. Pair the D-A COARSE pad with Rupes D-A COARSE Compound to remove moderate-to-severe defects from most paint systems quickly.
The most versatile foam pad provides rapid removal for moderate-to-fine paint defects, while polishing the paint to a high-gloss finish on most paint systems. This pad is designed to maximize the performance of both random-orbit or gear-driven orbital polishers. Pair with Rupes D-A FINE polishing compound for high-quality results and a brilliant finish.
Polish the most delicate and haze-prone paints to a mirror-like lustre. Use this pad on gear-driven or random orbital polishers, with Rupes UNO PURE ultra-fine polish to remove extremely fine defects or to burnish paint to a show car finish. The Rupes D-A Ultra Fine foam pad is ideal for the applications of waxes and sealants as well.
Microfibre - For Random Orbital And Gear Driven Polishers
Colour coded and available in 3 sizes - 85, 130 and 160mm, each microfibre pad is slightly larger than the compatible backing plate to provide edge protection during use.
Blue D-A Coarse Microfiber Extreme Cut
Designed to rapidly remove severe defects, sanding marks, scratches on fully cured or harder paint systems and flat solid surfaces. Pair with Rupes D-A COARSE Compound and experience our fastest defect removal for any of our dual-action BigFoot polishing tools.
Yellow D-A Fine Microfiber Polishing Pad
These pads are designed for the removal of moderate defects, swirls, haze, and holograms on fully cured paint. Specialized microfiber material bonded to a semi-flexible foam backing, allows for better control and contouring over varied panel shapes with an ideal balance of cutting and finishing ability. These pads are best combined with Rupes D-A FINE Compound.
White D-A Ultra Fine Microfiber Polishing Pad
This unique microfiber polishing material is combined with an extremely soft foam interface which allows this pad to boost the defect-removing power of ultra-fine polishes. Use with Rupes UNO PURE, to deliver a consistent and clear finish on medium-to-hard clear coats.
